Miami and Coral Gables, Florida
Gum recession can happen to anyone; the problem is that shrinking gums will not reverse naturally. Once your gums begin to shrink, the only way to reverse it is through professional dental treatment.
For decades, traditional gum grafting surgery was the only method of repairing gum recession. The problem is that it is invasive, and requires a lengthy healing time.
Now, with the revolutionary Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique (PST™), Miami Designer Smiles can have you smiling confidently in as little as one appointment to our Miami office.
What is the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique?
This patented technique involves using a specially designed tool in which the dentist makes tiny holes or entry points, and then gently loosens the gum tissue in the area being treated. The idea is to maneuver the gum tissue over the area of exposed tooth root. The gums tissue is then held into place by inserting collagen fibers. No cutting, and no sutures necessary!
What is the difference between PST™ and traditional gum surgery?
PST™ differs greatly from the traditional gum grafting procedure that involves using a scalpel to cut and remove tissue from another area of the mouth and then suturing the tissue into place. Traditional gum surgery methods are quite invasive and require an extensive healing process. Because of this, patients can only have several areas treated at once, which means it can take months to achieve the final results.
Instead, PST™ results in minimal bleeding, and discomfort. Plus, patients can have a single area or multiple areas treated at once, without the need for extensive healing.
Benefits of PST™
- Minimal discomfort during and after procedure
- Quicker healing
- Long-lasting results
- Results in faster time

Causes of gum recession
Gum recession can be caused by a variety of reasons. For some people, brushing incorrectly, too abrasively or using the wrong type of toothbrush can cause gums to shrink. For others, clenching and grinding their teeth could be the cause. Gum disease is another culprit of gum recession that is caused by not maintaining oral health. For some, the natural aging process or hormonal changes, such as pregnancy, can cause gums to recede. The problem with gum recession is that it will not reverse itself, but requires professional dental treatment. Ignoring your gum recession will only lead to tooth sensitivity, and increase your risk of tooth decay, and tooth loss.
