Common Cosmetic Dental Problems

Miami and Coral Gables, Florida

While we have grown accustomed to seeing beautiful, near-perfect smiles, very few people are actually born with perfect teeth. Almost everyone has some kind of cosmetic dental flaw, and it is not unusual to have several. At Miami Designer Smiles, our cosmetic dentists Dr. Raul Garcia and Dr. Conchi Sanchez-Garcia offer their patients healthy solutions to these common cosmetic dental problems.

Discoloration

Whether your discoloration is the mild yellowing and dullness that occurs naturally with age; the stains that develop from frequent consumption of coffee, wine, and dark-colored fruits; or the deep, dark intrinsic stains that can be caused by tetracycline use in childhood, Miami Designer Smiles can eliminate almost any stains or discoloration by performing a professional tooth whitening treatment. Our whitening treatments produce whiter teeth that last longer, without the enhanced sensitivity that often is caused when using a store-bought whitening kit. If you have stains that do not respond satisfactorily to tooth whitening, then porcelain veneers can be used to cover your stained teeth, giving you a bright, beautiful smile.

Crooked Teeth

Our Miami cosmetic dentists offer several solutions for crooked teeth:

Invisalign orthodontic treatment can be used to straighten adult teeth without the need for brackets and wires. Invisalign is a primary area of focus for Dr. Sanchez-Garcia. Porcelain veneers can be used to correct the appearance of minor crookedness without having to go through the process of truly straightening your teeth. This is often referred to as “instant orthodontics.” Dr. Sanchez-Garcia also offers children’s orthodontics to prevent the development of more serious problems as your child’s mouth develops.

Gaps Between Your Teeth

Very small gaps can be covered with dental bonding. Larger gaps can be corrected by building up the adjacent teeth with porcelain veneers. A very large gap caused by a missing tooth can be corrected by replacing the tooth with a dental implant.

Chipped or Broken Teeth

Flawed teeth can be renewed with porcelain veneers or dental bonding. In some cases, the teeth are simply chipped or may have a large piece broken off of them. Our doctors will be able to recommend a custom restoration that is best for your teeth. For severely damaged teeth, a dental crown can be a more appropriate solution that replaces the entire exterior of the tooth being treated.

Unevenly Sized or Shaped Teeth

Much like minor crookedness, the appearance of unevenly sized or shaped teeth also can be corrected with porcelain veneers or dental bonding. An exceptionally short tooth may be treated more effectively with a dental crown.

Older Dental Work

A metallic filling creates an unsightly looking dark patch in your mouth that can make you self-conscious about your smile. Our Miami cosmetic dentists can remove these fillings and replace them with tooth-colored fillings that are matched in shape and color to your other natural teeth. These fillings also do not expand and contract as strongly to the natural temperature changes that occur in your mouth, and receiving them eliminates the risk of mercury exposure that comes from using fillings that contain dental amalgam.

Unsightly Gums

The appearance of your gums can affect the beauty of your smile just as much as the look of your teeth. Gum recontouring can correct an uneven gum line, puffy gums, or a gummy smile.
